Keep it clean

The most important thing to do after having your tattoo removed is to keep the area clean. This means using soap and water to clean the area several times a day, but try to keep the wound dry. The laser will leave a mark on your skin, so it will look weird and swollen at firs. The key is to keep the area clean so it doesn’t get infected or cause additional complications.

Moisturize it

Another important thing you should do is keep your skin moisturized. The treatment site will be constantly drying off so try to moisturize it regularly with various ointments like Aquaphor. Do not use Neosporin for it may cause additional blistering on your skin. If your skin becomes itchy, do not scratch it because you can make the wound bleed which can lead to potential infection.

Don’t panic! Blistering is normal

Blisters are common after the laser tattoo removal procedure. Blisters will occur and once they do, you have to take good care of them. Do not break the blisters under any circumstances. If you do, however, contact the office or the Tattoo Removal studio that did the procedure and ask for advice. In most cases, they will tell you to use a non-stick bandage and to moisturize the treated site. If they ask you to come to the studio so they can take a look, do it. Blistering usually lasts for about 1 to 2 weeks, so avoid hot showers, pools, ocean swimming and anything that would soak the wound for at least 5 to 7 days after the procedure.

Rest!

Even though you may not feel the full magnitude of the procedure, know that your body needs a lot of rest in the next 2 to 3 days, especially the area on your body where the procedure took place. Limit your physical activity to a minimum in the following days. By exercising, you reduce the blood flow in certain body parts and reduce the amount of blood your muscles get, which they need for healing. And you don’t want to slow down the healing process, but quite the opposite. This is especially important if the tattoo is on your feet or hands which are in constant motion during the day. Make sure to get enough rest and wait until you are fully healed to continue exercising.

Schedule an appointment

Make sure you schedule the appointment and have your treated place checked. Until that day, avoid the direct contact with the sun, or spray tanning. Shave the area around the wound and have it checked in 6 to 12 weeks. It takes up to 5 weeks for a healthy body to break down the ink, so don’t panic and know that it’s normal to wait that long.
